Thanks for the information. When purchasing EE Mobile contract at the EE Store they said I wouldn't need to pay the £7.50 as BT and EE are the same and as I was a customer of either one or the other the email account would be the same and not a downgraded version of what I have now. If I had been informed correctly I may not have left BT wifi or moved to EE for the mobile contract.

If you no longer have BT Broadband or EE Broadband your BTMail email account will "downgraded" to BTMail Basic.

The BTMail email service is part of a broadband contract not a mobile phone contract.

When you say BT Wifi do you mean BT Broadband?

If you do do you now have EE Broadband?

Your BTMail is not part of a mobile phone contract. You need to have either BT Broadband or EE Broadband.

If neither of the above you can still keep your BTMail account but it will be downgraded to a BTMail Basic account which can only be used with a web browser and not with an email app.

https://www.bt.com/help/email/bt-email-products

Thanks for clarifying. I will return to the EE shop with regards buying the mobile contract why when I asked a number of times why I was not informed of the extra charge to keep the BT email as it is a further £7.50 needs to be paid each month. Also please would you know how I can tell if my account as mentioned as in their general advice webpage.' is an older account ('If you've had your email with us for many years, you may be using an old type of email') Thanks for your help

The older email is regarding when you use a web browser to make sure its upto date as some of the older browsers don't work with BTMail.

when moving from bt landline broadband to ee mobile broadband (because landline speeds were woeful) i was not informed that this would affect my btinternet email access. indeed the email app just stopped working with no notification from bt that this would happen. it would seem that i now have to subscribe to bt premium email service. pretty poor show from BT.

You don't HAVE to subscribe to Premium Mail, only if you wish to use a mail app/client rather than webmail.

As stated above in mesage 4, your BTMail is part of your BT Broadband package. It is not a stand alone product sold by BT except for the BT Premium email service.

You stopped BT Broadband so your BTmail gets downgraded to the free BTMail Basic account which can only be used with a web browser and not an email app unless you pay for BT Premium email which can be used with an email app.

Had you moved to EE Broadband not the mobile version you would have been able to keep your BTMail as a standard email account.

thanks for that, but it would have been better had BT, or indeed EE, explained that this would happen instead of just finding this out after the BT email app stopped working. i even ‘phoned BT to find out why, but this wasn’t explained.
