Old Mailbox versions being deleted

Hello, just had and email from ****2 wire.com telling me I have to log in to my BT email account or else it will be deleted - Is this genuine or a scam?????

With an email address like that - and not a BT one - this almost certainly is a scam. Is there a "link" on the email from which you are informed you can login to your BT email? If so, don't touch it!!

Thanks, I thought as much, there is a link to log in but I have not used it - just logged into MyBt and the email from there. What is confusing is that a general web search shows that BT are doing things with old email adresses.

No they are not. They only delete unused email addresses.
