I am in Thailand and both of my BT email accounts are locked out every day meaning i have to change passwords each time. Does BT not permit email to be used abroad? It is rubbish

I would agree but it also happens whether the VPN is on or not, on the phone and iPad.

Yes BT allow you to use email while abroad.

It may be that that networks you are using IP addresses are on a blacklist and as such BT are blocking them.

If you have a VPN try using that or if you do not have one Proton offer a free VPN or try using the Opera web browser which has a built in VPN that you can turn on when needed.

I can’t see a 5* hotel being on a blacklist, can you?It does not work on or off the VPN, nor does it work on the Apple email client nor on the web. It just does not work and resetting the passwords every day is very tiresome. My banks and credit cards work fine, on and off the VPN, as does gmail. My conclusion can only be BT email does not work properly. I have had the same problem elsewhere, but only with BT

Unfortunately the only way you would be able to resolve that would be to call the BTMail email team and ask them to have a look at your BTMail accounts.

The BTMail help line number from outside the UK is +44 150 174 7714 which will be a charged call.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Putting the VPN on would take the hotel IP address out of the equation so the blacklist possibility should be nullified by that. I don’t need bt email that desperately, I can use other options, but it does make me think whether they are the best option for me. Why don’t they reference the MAC address at the banks and credit cards do, rather than the IP address? It is just poor service (something that does not surprise me as an ex employee).

thanks again

Thanks Leanne. I am not sure it is worth the effort tbh. I have tried many combinations without much success. My trip is nearly over and the same problem occurred in Barbados too, so it is systemic rather than country specific imv. I could use the bt email app I guess, but is that tracked by ip address or is the mac address used like banks, credit cards and money cards, none of which has given me any problems.

gmail works fine too…
