Why is BT premium email so flaky?

I have had BT Email for over 20 years, latterly "premium email". In the last couple of years it has been deeply flaky. I have a number of addresses shared with the family. Sometimes all of them stop working at once. Changing the passwords, deleting all accounts from all devices and reinstalling usually sorts it though not immediately. I usually have to try several times. The main address I actually use goes down more often. Lots of 0x800CCC0F and "the connection to the server was disconnected" errors. This morning it was giving these errors on my main address but not on the others which have exactly the same account settings! It has now fixed itself despite me making no changes to settings, just re-entering them and hitting "test settings" several times. I have (free) gmail, icloud and proton accounts which are rock solid. I am in the process of migrating everything important off BT but it is a pain given how long I have had it.

Anyone else having similar problems?
