Securing your email client

Soon, BT Email won't support older, insecure methods of connecting to our email servers.

We're sending emails to impacted customers to check their settings, as we believe they are using an older, insecure method to connect to our email servers.

We are encouraging our Client users to check their settings so you can continue accessing BT Email via clients safely before these are blocked.

Your current email program uses one of these older methods, so you'll need to update your settings to avoid losing access to your email.

What you need to do

You must update your email program's settings to use a secure, encrypted connection. If you don’t make this change, you won't be able to access your emails with your current email program.

If you're using BT Webmail or the BT Email app

You don't need to change anything. This change only applies to other apps and email clients.

Instructions for Outlook say that you must remove existing account.
Does that mean that my existing folder setup will be lost ?
I have 25 years worth of emails meticulously filed over about 100 folders/subfolders and would not know where to start if I had to start from scratch .
Please help

Total nonsense from BT, you just need to change the ports from insecure ports 110, 25/143 to secure ports 465, 995/993.

What you can't do is change from POP3 to IMAP on the fly, but you can change from insecure ports to secure ports for the same protocol.
