Email sporadically not working

BT email appears to sporadically stop working but not on every email address, over the past few days. On mail apps on various devices, I get a password request and it's not always recognised. On webmail I get the error message "We are experiencing issues with the service, please try again later". This continues for a period then works again.
Does anyone know if BT is having issues, and how to check email service status?
I see from an earlier thread this month there may have been IMAP problems.
