I think you will find that if you set voicemail to maximum number of rings and your answerphone to fewer, you can still use your answerphone.

It is the same with BT Digital Voice.

Oh, and by the way you are not 'forced' to move to EE, you can stay with BT if insistent.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good rant.

If you, like me are being forced to move to EE,after many good years with BT-consider it carefully.

EE will force you to have their voicemail, whether you want it or not. Apparently it cant be turned off, either.

So the answerphone that I currently have sitting on my desk which still works perfectly well, cannot be used.

ThanksBT/EE

Don't quite agree with @licquorice about not being forced to move.

The fact is that quite a fair numbers of users have been switched to EE without their agreement and realistically no way back.

Personally I ended a 30 rolling contract and suddenly found I was in a new 24 month contract with EE done by a deceitful "guide" and once done getting back is almost impossible it seems as there's no process in place for doing it. Got compensated but that wasn't the point.

"...suddenly found I was in a new 24 month contract with EE done by a deceitful "guide"

Yes, BT/EE's phone agents are all incentivized by commission to switch customers from BT to EE, so some at least are economical with the truth. I don't think it's a "rant" to complain about this.
It seems the only sure way to stay with BT is not to telephone them at all and, when your contract expires, just let it transition to month to month billing
