Barred number still rings

I have barred a number on my elderly fathers phone as it is somebody trying to extort money from him.

The number is diverted to the answerphone but it rings first.

Is there anyway of stopping it ringing as he keeps getting up to answer the phone and I am worried he will fall over!

If he has call protect you can dial 1572 and block it that way, if he doesn't have it then call BT and get them to add the feature.

It is done via call protect - set it up on my BT rather then on his phone - it rings and then goes to the special voicemail and does not show in the received calls on his phone. I can see the call in the last 20 on call protect though
