Since moving to fibre the Panasonic KX-TGD620E no longer rings. Making outbound calls is fine. Outside calls in though don't make the phone ring, even though the caller will 'hear' the phone ringing from their end.

More bizarrely, as soon as a call is received it's IMMEDIATELY channeled to the answerphone - whether this is switched on or not!

Checked the settings - it's on full volume, with the answerphone set to answer after 6 rings.

I believe the phone is supposed to be digital compatible, but am wondering if it really is?

Other strange thing is that instead of the dialling tone being one ongoing tone, it is more like the 'engaged tone' - i.e. stops and starts.

Anyone come across anything like this before?!

Modulated dialtone is the audible signal that you have a message waiting on the DV answering service , listen you your messages and the regular dialtone returns ….some older phones don’t ‘ring’ with DV , but connecting them via an old style ADSL/VDSL filter (the dangly block type ) restores ringing .

Wow... thank you for the massively rapid response!

To confuse things further (!)... there are no messages on the phone, and I've tried plugging the phone in via a BT adapter (which is supposed to be used in non-digital compatible devices). But no joy. People can leave messages on the phone without a problem.

As I say, I fear I'll end up just throwing the phone (and the 4 extensions) away 😞

The adapter is just a portable phone socket, nothing else, it is just the same as plugging your base station into the green socket.

All phones are compatible, the green socket and the adapter present exactly the same conditions as a normal analogue master socket.

I don't have that particular model of Panasonic, but the old model I do have works just fine.

Have you tried a different phone to eliminate the possibility it is a system fault rather than your phone?

When you say there are no messages do you mean on the BT DV answering service ( 1571 ) or on the phone ‘answer machine’ ? .

On PSTN , BT Answer 1571 was a paid for service, with DV it’s included in the rental , but some complain that if they also have their own answer machine , the messages get left on which ever service or machine that is set to answer after the fewest unanswered ‘rings’ ….try calling 1571 from the handset , it may be 1571 answered a call before the answer machine

I would also add that I've been using a KX-TGA6624EB since I was switched 18 months ago and it work fine, answer phone included.

(The problem with the answer phone may be the number of rings it is set to. The 1571 service will answer first if it is set to fewer rings. Settings for that are on MyBT).

Thank you for the guidance. I didn't even know that the voicemail existed - we've never been informed in any way (or should that be 'warned' in any way?!) As the BT voicemail message is pretty well identical to the one on the phone base set I was therefore understanding it was our phone that was somehow intercepting calls. It's the BT voicemail system.

Even though the system I've found is set to interrupt incoming calls after several rings, in fact it's been intercepting all calls immediately.

I've now managed to (eventually - a VERY painful process) have BT switch the voicemail off ...which has resulted in our landline become inoperable! We can make outbound calls, but no one can dial in as the line is permanently engaged. It's been referred to the engineers to fix, which is going to take a week.

We were thinking of changing suppliers anyway... BT has the best salespeople for their competitors that they could ever want!!!
