Call Protect - Recent Callers - Time of Call is GMT not BST

Call Protect -> Recent Callers lists the time of the incoming call or call attempt. It is showing the calls with GMT and not BST.

Calls made are shown in BST on the normal usage page but you need to wait a few hours for those calls to appear - possibly because the cost needs to be calculated.

Does anyone else have this issue?

I see there is a long thread about last number not showing up - so I'd expect the time would have been noticed if it was incorrect.

I've had a quick check of my own phone here, and the calls listed in Call Protect match the dates and times displayed within the calls option of my handset.

Admittedly I don't use my landline a huge amount, so can't say for sure yet if these times are accurate to BST, or if they're following GMT.

Are the date and time settings on both your phone handset, and the device you're checking Call Protect from the same?

@Peter_W Thanks for the reply. It is not related to the date/time on the landline / BT handset. It is related to the time the call was received.

For outgoing calls - from the BT landline to a mobile all looks good. See example - 2 second call at 18:29 seen on an Iphone at 18:29 for 3 secs.

However, a test call from this morning from the mobile to the landline at 10:29 shows as 10:29 on the Iphone, but in Call Protect it shows as 09:29:07. The call did not complete / wasn't answered but that shouldn't make any difference.

It's a little strange. If you call your landline from your mobile do you get the same?

Thanks for sharing those extra details for me @BarkingMadBarking.

I actually gave this a test when I sent my last reply and was just waiting for it to populate - in my case the iPhone that made the outbound call, and the log of this in Call Protect both show the correct time in BST.

Does the time show correctly on your landline phone handset too?

It's my MiL's landline. I'm authorised to speak on her behalf on the BT system.

The time on the handset should be correct - we changed it for the time change a few weeks ago.

I don't see why the landline handset time is relevant. The handset could just be a dumb BT Viscount Telephone (no display - going back some years now!).

I've just checked my BT account and Call Protect is enabled. Here are three calls - 2 are received calls on the BT landline after the switch to summertime. The time is incorrect - when compared to the time of the call was made on the Iphone.

Two different BT accounts with the same issue. Since the switch to BST, received call times on BT are 1 hour adrift.

@BarkingMadBarking I just wanted to check the time on the handset in case it was pulling from there.

It's definitely an odd one if it's showing this discrepancy on two separate accounts for you, but not for me.

What device is it you're checking this from, and have you tried a different one?

I worked in Telecoms Billing (supplied a billing system to BT many years ago), the CDRs (Call Detail/Data Records) will contain the date/time of the call. The handset time will have no impact.

Just made two test calls to my BT home phone, just after 12 midday. One from my mobile, one from a VOIP number. Both seen with times that are 1 hour adrift.

Have you tried logging in via a different device to see if this displays in the same way.

Also are there any other specific issues you've noticed with the functionality of Call Protect, or is it just the timings?

Here is another account (my mum and dad) receiving a call from my mobile. This was taken on a different device (Ipad), running Safari.

I don't think it is device or browser related. When my wife calls her mother from her mobile, we see the same pattern.

The screenshot below shows calls to my BT account. The earliest one (15 Mar 08:10:28) was before BST switch over and it matches my Iphone. The others are 1 hour out.

My thoughts are that when BT generates a CDR (call data record), the "switch" (equipment in the exchange) stamps the record with a date/time. From my 3 received calls above, I'm guessing it is GMT. For outgoing calls (the calls that appear on the bill), the BT downstream systems add 1 hour to compensate for BST. For incoming calls, this extra hour isn't being added. Or perhaps the outgoing recording has been adjusted by +1 hour in the "switch" but the incoming hasn't.

Historically, consumers only see the outbound calls. The capability to see inbound calls via Call Protect is relatively new - so perhaps there is an issue.

I've shown the same issue on three different BT accounts; one VOIP (Digital Voice), 2x traditional PSTN which are located in the North West, Kent and Herts. Perhaps the incoming calls for these accounts all share the same "interconnect point" (connection with other Telco's) ; perhaps for scalability / resilience there is more than one "interconnect point" - I don't know.

We use Call Protect to keep on "dodgy calls" and to "block" them. The issue was only detected because I saw some calls before 08:00 and I thought they looked strange. I don't remember seeing a similar issue last summer, but perhaps there were no early morning calls.

I've seen the same issue on my mum and dad's BT account. See pictures. These were taken on an Ipad using Safari.

I've seen the issue on 3 accounts, covering Northwest, Kent and Herts. One of the accounts was BT DV (VOIP), the others copper PSTN.

Outgoing calls appear on customers bills and have been visible for many years. They need to be priced/rated so the time needs to be correct.

Incoming calls, as seen in Call Protect, are relatively new. These calls don't need to be priced for a BT consumer. They haven't been visible to the BT consumer - until relatively recently.

I'm wondering if outgoing calls (call data records) have their timestamp adjusted by 1 hour when the call is made or by the BT billing system. Perhaps the incoming calls come from a different source - and these are not being modified for BST?

I use Call Protect to block scam incoming calls.

I only noticed the time issue when I saw some early (before 08:00) incoming calls and thought it was strange. I didn't notice the issue last summer, but maybe there were no early calls. I don't know.

When my wife uses her mobile and calls her mum we see the same issue.

It is strange you don't see the same issue with your incoming calls to your BT line.

I may have spoken too soon when it comes to being unaffected.

Yesterday I was checking this through the My BT App on my iPhone, which redirects to the mobile version of the site to display all of the call protect info.

This showed, and continues to show, calls at the correct time.

I've had a check this morning on my iPad though, logging into the desktop version via Safari, and I'm experiencing the same thing you have reported here.

Which browsers have you been using when noticing this?

@BarkingMadBarking I fed this back to our support teams yesterday to see if we've had any similar reports, and now that we're noticing a few more patterns I've updated them on the further things I've noticed myself.

I'll leave this with them for now, but if we need to test anything further or require any specific details for the investigation, I'll let you know.
