Thank you. In order not to appear an idiot I set 1571 to ten rings (the maximum) so I assumed it would be OK. My answerphone was set to seven rings but somehow they all seemed to be in anti-phase; anyway I have now changed the answerphone to six rings (the only other alternative) and it all seems to work OK. I have even put the adaptopr back on and that seems to be OK too.

Many thanks to all!!

I wish to use my old answering machine on my new digital line. I have the BT adaptor and am using it. The phone rings, the answerphone answers but immediately terminates the call. Any ideas?

What happens if you plug it into your hub rather than an adapter?

Same thing regrettably. As soon as the answerphone answers the call is cut off.

is it possible that 1571 is answering the call before your own answering machine? how many rings have you set for 1571 to wait before answering? you can change number of rings in MYBT so set 1571 to max rings and your answering system to a lesser number so it takes call before 1571
