A few things.

Yes DV can be provided by FTTC.

However, Openreach may have plans to cease the cabinet your parents are connected to this making FTTP compulsory.

Why are your parents averse to FTTP, it is far more reliable than the copper infrastructure.

DV Migration with Full Fibre Upgrade

Hi all. Parents received an email telling them that they are soon to be moved over to DV, and to support the transition, their broadband (currently FTTC) will be upgraded, for free, to Full Fibre.

Had this same issue last year. Parents are happy to have DV but aren't interested in Full Fibre. When I called BT last year for them, I was told that they couldn't remove the Full Fibre element from the order, so they just cancelled the entire migration at the time.

Called BT today because, again, they're happy with getting DV but have no interest in Full Fibre. This time I was told that Openreach are removing the copper wires in the area and they must upgrade to Full Fibre. They have no choice in the matter now

Is this true? I was under the impression that DV could be used over FTTC broadband. Has that now changed?

The email says that Openreach will be in touch to arrange a time/date for an engineer to install Full Fibre at their property. If they refuse the appointment, what will happen? Will their telephone and internet just be cut off, or will the migration to DV still happen without moving to Full Fibre.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Currently there is no compulsion for existing FTTC customers to change to FTTP just because of the implementation of DV , however this often a costly decision,it can mean being on a ‘out of contract’ basis , and consequently paying more for the services than necessary, a re-contract event can include compulsory FTTP as does moving to a new provider….why the reluctance to take FTTP ? .

DV and FTTP are two different, albeit ‘linked’ programs, the migration to DV is BT , the switch to FTTP where available is Openreach , although ISP’s are incentivised to get their customers onto it , once it becomes available….there will eventually be compulsion, but existing FTTC customers for now are not obliged to take FTTP , after all there will be some group , for example renters that would need permission from their landlord have a valid reason for not upgrading if the landlord refuses any work to the property .
