So caller display is working just not on the phones connected to an adapter. From previous posts people found using a filter (like the filters used previously used) connected to adapter and phone connected to filter that caller display worked. Unfortunately not every filter worked according to posts so matter trial and error

caller display on DV. (again)

I posted before about being unable to get caller display working, like many others it would seem, after being switched to DV. Oddly though as mentioned before if the caller on my contacts list rings and it just shows 'incoming call', the caller, usually only my daughter knows this, then hangs up and calls again it will show her name. Judging by other posts it appears the adapters are the problem because if my BT 4500 phone is the taken upstairs and plugged into the hub it works every time. However it is not convenient to leave it upstairs. Going to my hub settings on the phone no. under 'handset registration there is a box which says 'start registration'. If I do that what will it do? As my phone is quite a few years old will it register to the hub@ the 2 adapters we have are registered. I don't want to mess the hub settings up. 4 calls to BT previously have failed to resolve this problem, while not earth shattering is annoying.

I'm still struggling to understand why you need to plug the base station into an adapter rather than the hub. The handset can be used anywhere.

There is not much room to leave base station connected to hub on a permanent basis, plus if we did and handset kept dowstairs as it would not get charged as we like to keep the handset in the bedroom at night. Have you any answer to my question about whether the BT 4500 phone will register with the hub as the phone is quite a few years old now?

a DECT handset should register to the SH2 base but you probably will find you don't get all the functions you have with existing base unit.

Back to caller display not working, noted other postings about trying an ADSL filter. I had 4 of these not being used so thought I would try them yesterday, 3 were different makes, tried one, wife rang home phone from mobile and still ' incoming call' showing, tried with my mobile, same. changed to 2nd filter, repeated as before, both our names came up, yo sorted, or so we thought. Daughter rang later, ' incoming call' showing again. After her yak we both tried again and our names came up, was it because we were close to the hub, not sure. However we tried again this morning and back to 'incoming call ' again. Very odd. One poster said you need a filter with a capacitor but you can't tell by looking at them. He bought a dearer one from a firm he mentioned, £11 it was and that worked for him though his problem was a missing ring tone. These filters are now £13 with vat so not sure whether to try one or not. The mystery goes on.

Using an ADSL filter when an old corded phone doesn’t ring is a know ‘fix’ for non ringing , but it’s a ‘worth a try’ option for flaky CLI , certainly not worth the expense of buying one to try , it’s more of an option to try if you already had one or more in a drawer from previous broadband setups .

As far as CLI working 50% of the time (or thereabouts) there was a thread on here a while back , pretty much the same symptoms , except they didn’t mention the DV adapter was in use between the hub and the handset until pretty late in the thread , basically their equipment worked fine connected directly to the hub , but the phone only displayed the correct CLI info every other call when connected via a DV adapter , this sounds very similar if not identical to your experience.

As stated on that thread , I’m unaware of any other provider other than BT that provides any similar ‘adapter’ kit for free when they move customers onto their equivalent of DV , their customers are told to plug their own existing phone directly into the router socket , that’s it …..by supplying DV adapters and before that DV handsets , BT gain no plaudits for providing them , but plenty of complaints if they don’t work perfectly, BT were under no obligation to supply anything , every other supplier decided not to bother .

Its pretty clear the DV adapters supplied for free are not perfect in forwarding the CLI information , from the hub to the handset, but in my opinion the solution is either you throw them in the recycling if their performance is unacceptable, even if you need to do some rearranging of your existing equipment and sockets to allow your own phone equipment to connect to the hub directly ( as you would if you were a customer of Sky , Vodafone etc ) or you put up with their failings .
