I wanted to post whether other customers had the same concerns as myself regarding BT going fully digital and losing out home landlines to a digital service.

I live in a rural location where my internet is not strong and runs slightly lower than the guaranteed speed of 1Mbps. This however gives me sufficient strength for the things I need to do. I have a mobile where the signal is not reliable, again due to my location. I rely on the landline totally in times such as when we have power cuts during the bad weather we get in the Highlands in the Autumn/Winter months. So often the landline can be the only way to communicate.

Recently I had a BT engineer call out and after sorting out my issue with my modem we got talking about the digital service. He advised me that in order to have a digital phone line work, a speed of 5Mpbs is required. He advised to contact BT regarding this as I would be left in a vulnerable position once the change takes place.

Has anyone else been advised of this? I have tried to find out from BT but as yet have not been able to get an answer from them. Be great to hear from anyone on this subject.

Thanks Karen

DV does not need a 5mb connection and your existing connection of 1mb will be more than sufficient to have an active digital voice phone

if you search the forum this has been covered in numerous posts

What a complete idiot he was. Digital Voice only requires a few Kbs not Mbs.

I think your engineer was getting confused with streaming Full HD TV. That needs more like 5Mb/s.
