Contact regarding moving a master socket (home)

Hi, does anyone know how I actually get to speak to someone to arrange to have a master socket moved in my house? I have been all over the BT website and Openreach, tried the automated contact routes but it seems if I am not moving house or reporting a fault, I can't seem to raise a query! Thanks

I would just check yellow pages or local paper and look for telecom person who will be able to move the socket without any problems. Bearing mind that when your home is moved to full fibre the master socket will no longer be used

Mate BT would be the last people to use as they charge upto £130 for the privilege.

You could run an extension off it yourself but failing that any decent independent telephone engineer will do the job for you.

@Kay46 Indeed, as @Kodikid pointed out, if you went down the BT route, be prepared to have potentially deep pockets!

I don’t have a clue what BT’s average hourly rate is, but when you consider that a lot of trades people now have an hourly rate of £70 plus and more in and around the big cities, I doubt it would be cheap.

£109.67 + VAT is the Openreach charge for shifting an NTE , that isn’t necessarily what the provider that arranges it will charge the consumer. In my opinion unless the wall the master socket is on is being demolished or similar, then an extension socket and cable ran from the master is likely to be a much more appropriate solution.

Before doing anything can you post why you want the master socket moved?

At the moment the people posting are guessing why you want it moved.

Depending on why you want it moved it may result in a more informed answer which could even include that there is no need to move it.

Exactly, it may involve work on the Openreach infrastructure which a local tradesman will be unable to perform.
