Digital Voice and Reduced Broadband Speeed

I received an email from BT yesterday regarding Digital Voice switchover

It states that

"Your new broadband product will provide average speeds of 67Mbps. This is lower than your current speed, but you’ll still get fast, dependable connectivity."

My current broadband speed is showing as 158Mbps

I telephoned the provided number and told them that I do not want the speed reduction
I rarely use the landline and would prefer to get rid of the landline rather than have slower internet speed.

I was told that I cannot change anything in the middle of the contract and will have to wait until the contract ends (by which time they will have switched me to the lower speed.

This is unacceptable. BT are planning to reduce my broadband speed to less than half of its current speed mid-contract, but my refusal is not allowed because that would constitute a mid-contract change.

Who do I complain to?

You are not talking directly to BT here. This is a customer to customer help forum and the only BT employees are the moderators, who don't have account access. You really need to talk to customer services again.

Looking at the speeds you quote, that's not a G.Fast connection is it?

Yes - it is a G.Fast connection

Ah. I'm not an expert in this area, but I believe they are pulling support for G.Fast. I would have thought under the circumstances you would have the right to be released from the contract.

G.Fast is not supplied anymore. You are being switched to a FTTC connection since G.Fast is effectively being terminated as it is provided solely over copper which will be phased out by Jan 2027.

Unless there is a FTTP provider in your area you have no options regarding the speed reduction - BT can't do anything about it and neither could any other ISP.

AFAIK, Gfast as well as being obsolete and not supported anymore, isn’t going to deliver DV in the same way FTTC can , and as BT are required to maintain your telephone service (as you previously hadn’t removed it the assumption is it’s necessary to maintain it ) then migration to FTTC is the only way to do this …..if you now decide that telephony isn’t that important, unfortunately that decision is too late as no new Gfast orders are possible (and ceasing PSTN tele7and Gfast broadband to remove telephony and a new order to reproved only Gfast broadband is a new order it can be processed …..the writing has been on the wall for Gfast for quite some time , it’s naive to think it would be available forever, DV has simply brought forward the inevitable

When I took renewed my contract (last October) I was not informed that GFast was obsolete and incompatible with DV (although I was aware they were not offering it for new accounts).
BT are failing to honour the 2-year contract that we both agreed, so how can they justify blocking me from giving up my landline?

Simple, cancel as it'll be an option. That's it nothing else
