Calling packages

I've just spent a long time trying to find a simple explanation of the costs of each calling plan without success. I am currently on an unlimited call plan at £12 per month ( have digital voice). My contract has expired and I see they seem to have reintroduced 700 minutes and, maybe, 500 minutes plans but I cannot find the new list of charges anywhere and , if I go into my account, it sets me off on an order process. I have Fibre 2 broadband, also now contract free.

Any help please?

What leads you to believe the 700 and 500 minute packages have been reintroduced, particularly as you seem to be unable to find any details.

Suspect it was probably from some AI generated tosh.

I keep trying to copy the page from the website to send you but it will not work ??

It is on the main site under Landline deals - Home phone packages - and lists PAYG, 500 MINUTES, 700 minutes and unlimited minutes as the options but with no costs

Hmm, that shows just PAYG and unlimited but there is a contradictory statement under one of the questions.

Further down it also mentions 500 and 700 minutes packages available.

I suspect it has not been updated properly, I will ask one of the mods to clarify.

We’ve made this change so everyone gets the benefits of our new calling plans, such as included calls to UK mobiles. This means you’ll be able to make unlimited calls to mobiles without worrying about extra charges.

What other options do I have?

If the new Unlimited Minutes plan isn’t the best option for you, we have other choices to replace your calling plan. These include our Limited Minutes plan, which gives you 700 minutes to call UK mobile and home phone numbers.

Why do I have to opt out of the Unlimited Minutes plan, rather than opt in?

We’ll be closing the existing Unlimited Anytime calling plan, so you won’t be able to stay on that. We’ll be moving you to our Unlimited Minutes package instead. This includes unlimited calls to UK home phones and mobile numbers.

If you don’t want the Unlimited Minutes plan, you’ll need to choose another of our calling plans.

700 mins replaced 500 mins a few years ago , when PSTN was still able to be ordered , it seems that this plan (700 mins) is now only available to existing phone only customers, BT broadband customers who want telephony have to take PAYG or Unlimited Minutes.

As standalone telephony is currently pretty difficult to actually buy , with the PSTN switch off , the requirement is to take DV , the only exception being existing BT telephony only customers moving to PDPL (pre digital phone line ) so effectively the 700 mins is unavailable to anyone but them.

The only example I’ve seen recently of a new BT customer wanting telephony only was given BT broadband for free, just to run the telephone service (proper DV not PDPL) but with a warning that using BT broadband for anything other than DV ,(so basically any device connected via WiFi or Ethernet ) will be detected and taken to be a tacit agreement to accept broadband as an additional service and BT would (understandably) start to charge for it , BT can tell if there is any regular broadband traffic on that service, chances are a warning will be sent first , something along the lines of ‘we noticed you are using broadband , if you continue to do this your bill will increase accordingly ‘ but these type of customers will be pretty few and far between.

Unfortunately the BT site is so unwieldy and presumably not checked for contradiction and old info , there are numerous places that contain out of date information.

All very confusing and misleading. How anyone is supposed to work out their options independently with any degree of confidence I don't know.

Thanks for flagging this, I've double checked and these plans are mentioned in the 'important info' and 'legal information' section just for reference for any customers that may be on these legacy plans.

It's only the options listed at the top available for current sale.

I've fed this back though, as we definitely want to be sure the options available to customers are clear.
