You can get legitimate calls from BT , I just had one , I knew FTTP was available in my area , I had seen the techs working in the area , ‘My BT’ had upgrade offers and I’d had a couple of emails saying FTTP was now in my area , so getting a call from BT isn’t unusual ( I had two calls , I didn’t answer the first one quickly enough , the message said BT , nothing to worry about and they would try again in the future )
With this post , what’s the story ? , was it you answered and they said it’s BT but you didn’t believe it , or you didn’t answer and looking up the number it’s from a BT number range in the Chorley Lancashire area ?
I tried calling the number and got nothing , no ringing , no busy tone ,just silence so chances are whoever it was , doesn’t want you to call back , suggesting strongly that it’s probably a scam , scammer can spoof telephone numbers , so it’s not likely the call originated from Lancashire , and the next scam attempt they make may use a completely different spoofed number .

easy way to solve this either pick up and tell them you will contact them yourself and put the phone down even if you think its legit

dont answer it ask bt if they rung you directly via a bt guide on live chat

the only person that has rang me from bt was complaints because i contacted them first

Thank you for your helpful replies. I wasn’t clear. It was a call on the BT network rather than from a BT number. I queried it because normally scam calls are on lesser known smaller networks (e.g Hutchinson) so this stood out as unusual.
