Is it possible to store contacts that are on my BT Smart digital phone so that do not vanish during power cuts or factory resets? BT support 3 days ago did a factory reset on my Smarthub 2 which resulted in all my contacts being wiped out of the phone because they 'forgot' that I was fully digital. I would like to be able to store them elsewhere so they may be imported should the situation arise again. I do not have a BT mobile contract.

The factory reset of the SH2 cleared all settings back to default which included removing all your contacts. You will have to re-enter them manually. Once you have re-entered your contacts you can then export them as a backup as @jac_95 said in message #2 above. Remember to export a new backup each time you add or remove contacts.

Many thanks for confirming what I suspected, just a pity that the BT support engineers didn't remember it at the time of the reset. Again thanks for your help.
