How to remove old phone box and wires

Hi, I want to safely disconnect/remove - at the very least - the two wires running from this box down through my floorboards. To me knowledge I don't use them for phone line or WiFi. Anyone know how I confirm this and who would remove it? Electrician or phone engineer? Any idea how much it would cost me to get a phone engineer out to do it? Many thanks.

It looks like and old style BT/PO connector. The lid is held in place by a screw. Remove that and it should contain screw terminals and the cables can be disconnected.

BUT - where do they go? Are you sure they are not part of your phone circuit?

Also be wary that sometimes people wire up live mains cables with whatever bits and pieces they have to hand. Best to check this is not the case here.

Hi Steve, Thanks for much for your response. I definitely Won't be the one to check this out. Would you advise that it's a telephone engineer (as opposed to an electrician) that I should seek out?

Many thanks.

Thank you - what is the best way to go about that? (Sorry if I sound stupid.)
