Free digital voice phones: can they be used as GAP handsets??

Does anyone know if the Essential or Advanced digital voice phones can be added as secondary GAP handsets to an existing DECT base station (plugged into SH2), or they must only be paired with the SH2 directly? Would e.g. the Alexa functionality still be available if they were used this way?
