Or as per the FAQs if moving to full fibre you and have extension phone sockets you can perform voice reinjection by connecting the extension phone sockets to the ATA port (phone port) on back of the smart hub 2.

Hi,

We are being upgraded to Fibre on Tuesday morning 30th May

When I discussing the change to digital voice I was told there was a choice of styles of cordless handset.

We currently have 3 corded phones.

I was told I'd receive a new digital smart handset but this has not arrived - does the engineer fetch it with him on installation day ?

Also, I have been sent one adapter for one corded phone.

Is this all I'm getting ?

Can anyone help please - do I need to speak with BT again ?

Thanks 🙂

BT dispatch the handsets, the engineer will be Openreach and won't carry them.

Call customer services and see if they have been dispatched.

You usually get the choice of one advanced handset, 2 basic handsets or an adapter.

As you have been sent an adapter, a handset probably hasn't been sent.

In the meantime, you can plug one corded phone into the green socket at the rear of the hub and another in the adapter which can be sited at any power point.

If you want to keep using your existing corded phones you can plug them in via the phone socket on the back of the router. You may want to buy a BT plug to BT plug cord to go from router to existing socket depending on exactly how you want them wired.

Thanks to all that responded - especially on a Sunday 😁

So...........

As mentioned, it looks like I've been sent an adaptor - which I can use with one existing corded phone.

The router is in an office with a corded phone in the BT socket so I can plug in the existing corded phone into the router there.

(I wasn't aware I could plug my existing corded phone directly into the router so tanks for that info)

I've just ordered another adaptor so that will be for the 3rd corded phone.

Sorted !

Thanks everyone,

😁

into ty

Thanks I didn't quite understand that bit - but do now.

There is a slight issue apparently on the existing wiring, when a previous engineer came to rectify a fault (which ended up being at the exchange end and he rectified it) he did some local tests to check everything was now working and said there looked like there was faulty wiring in the house.

Although the phones worked ok - he could detect an issue with the local wiring from his tester.

We never did resolve the issue but he suggested that because the phone extensions had been wired in a Star connected format perhaps that was what he was seeing on his tester.

So I really wanted to avoid the existing wiring but that's really handy to know you can do that with plug to plug.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

👍

Although "Star wiring" was a "killer" for FTTC connections it has no effect on full fibre (as far as we know).

We are currently connected on copper only for Broadband (14MB 😞 ) and Landline.

The current landline and broadband work, but it was the engineer who mentioned the star wiring for the phone.

When I checked it, he's right, all the phone extensions are connected directly back to the master socket located in the loft.

It's been like that since we moved in but the phones have always worked fine.

As @pippincp has said, although star wiring is detrimental to broadband, it has absolutely no effect on voice service. If you move to full fibre for broadband, you can use your existing wiring for telephony with no problems if you wish.
