BT 4000 'No base link'

Bought a used BT 4000 cordless phone. Charged batteries and connected mains and phone line, correctly.

But haven't been able to use it yet! A message has shown on the screen ever since, 'No base link- check base'. I've tried disconnecting the mains and phone line for a few minutes, then reconnecting, but that message remains. I've also reset the handset in Settings but when I try to reset the base, a message says 'Unavailable-no base link'.

Now I'm an absolute novice with tech so haven't a clue what else to try, any suggestions please 🙏

Try resetting the base unit and then register the handset again. The full manual for the BT 4000 is generally available online if you do a search for it.

Reset the handset or base settings
1. Select Menu, scroll to display Settings and
press OK.
2. Press to display Reset and press OK.
3. Handset settings is displayed, press OK or press
to display Base settings and then press OK.
4. Handset settings? or Base settings? is
displayed, select Yes.
5. Resettings settings is displayed while the reset
takes place. Once finished <Handset or Base>
settings reset is displayed.

Thanks, but as previously mentioned when I tried to reset the base a message showed, 'Unavailable- No base link'.

Then it sounds like a possible dud base unit.

A quick online search shows a replacement main Base Unit coming in at £12.00.

Silly question but I'll ask anyway as you haven't mentioned it. Have you actually tried to pair the handset to the base?

No, how do I do that? Didn't see that mentioned in the set up guide.
