Its a cordless phone which connects to the base unit using DECT. (a type of wireless connection). Removing the power to the base unit for a short while, can fix it.

If it does not, then to avoid a possible charge for a technician visit, you need to prove its the line that`s at fault, by trying a different phone, even a cheap wired phone.

Once you have proven its a line fault, then you can report it to BT.

Hi all. I have a 4500 cordless phone with one phone and base. My dial tone, and answer machine has stopped working. I still have the charging red light as solid, and the power green light is solid. Any help would be much appreciated

Welcome to this user forum for BT Retail phone and broadband customers.

Have you tried a different phone to make sure its not a line fault?

Try turning the power off on the base unit for about 30 seconds, and see if that fixes the fault, as the DECT communications can get locked up.
