      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi,&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I'm looking to port a existing BT number to a new BT account. I have recently separated from my partner and have a landline number that I use for work purposes, the current number is with BT (And the account in my ex partners name).&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Is it possible to port the number without closing and terminating the existing account with BT? I have permission from my ex to port the number however we don't want to terminate the old account.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If I set up a new account online it allows me to put in the details and port the number, but in doing this will it leave the old account open as just a broadband account or terminate the account fully?&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;It's important I keep the number as I use it for work. However I'm open to alternatives such as VOIP etc.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

&lt;P&gt;Welcome to this user forum for BT Residential phone and broadband customers.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;You would not be able to port a number which is associated with another account holder.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;The account holder could cancel the phone service, but that would cease their broadband as well.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Your ex-partner could start a new "broadband only" contract, but its very&amp;nbsp; unlikely the released number could be ported to a new customer. Remember that all new phone services are BT Digital Voice, which causes complications.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Bear in mind that if you are a business user, you would have to setup a BT Business account.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
