Once the digital service is available - midnight tomorrow, can I still go on using the analogue system until I've satisfactorily set up the new router etc?

It’s been twelve months since I was switched so the memory is fading a bit, but I seem to recall the old analogue line is assigned a temporary number when the switch goes through. I’d have the new router set up ready to go if I were you, so you just need to move the phone plug from the wall to the green socket on the back of the router.

What I did find, and is not often mentioned, is that the router needs turning off and on again to pick the new settings when the change goes through.

The original date by which all PSTN would be switched off was December 2025, it’s now pushed back until Jan 2027 , to allow for things like alarm companies that use the ‘phone line’ , even though those companies had many years to mitigate the PSTN switch off for legacy alarm lines , they asked for more time , bit its a very specific subset of customers that will be still on PSTN by that very last date , the majority of ‘normal’ PSTN lines will move to Digital Voice before then.
Migrating to DV is not done by exchange area , individuals are advised as and when they will be migrated, there is no ‘look up table ‘ to guesstimate when an individual line may be migrated to DV , you know when you are advised of being moved .
