Which of these are real and which are scams?

I joined BT in early September (broadband and landline) and since then I have received emails from:

btcomms@info.bt.com

bt.comms@bt.com

and texts from:

61998

-BT-

BTMobile

BT_SMS

BT Delivery

'BT'

So, which of these are real, and which are from scammers phishing and so on? I think btcomms@info.bt.com is real, as it has information about my orders and kit, but the bt.comms@bt.com looks dodgy and I have no idea about the text addresses. Some of the texts are telling me that I have a fault, and want me to respond, but contain incorrect details of my account. They contain links to prove they are real (!) but there is no way I am clicking on a link in an unsolicited text or email! Is sending a codeword to an unsolicited text to book an engineer actually the way BT deal with issues?

Please help, as I think there is a real fault on my broadband but the text messages about fixing it and compensation look like phishing to me, and I can't see how to contact anyone except by responding to the texts...

If that is the email address it was sent from then both are genuine and from BT.

Email addresses can be anything then @ followed by the domain, the 'anything' before is typically a username or subdomain.

For example Hello@andykent1.bt.com would be from BT, the andykent1 part would be the subdomain, does that make sense ?

So, phishingemail@thisisascam.bt.com would be a valid email from BT, yes? I could trust it to be genuine?

Thanks for the links, Sage. I will take a look and hopefully they will reassure me as to what BT might be sending and why.

Yes you're correct, the senders domain would still be BT.com in your example.

OK, now I've had a text from BTUK offering me lots of free gifts - that MUST be a scam, surely?

If you're concerned then do not open or click any links in the emails or download attachments, you can always call BT on 150 from a BT mobile or BT landline, you can also use 0800 800 150 from any other network.
