If you use the "quote" button when replying to a specific message this will include the message in your reply so that there is no doubt as to which message you are replying to.

Obviously you would need to know that there is a "quote" button and know to use it or better still would be that the "quoted" message was automatically included when you used the "reply" button.

@James-B @NickBS

It's long been an issue on these forums that the "reply" link in each post doesn't behave as expected. Instead of creating reply to that specific post with a tag or quote, it simply creates a new post. So newbies in particular will post of string of "replies" that no one has any idea who/what they're referring to. I'd assumed that this was just a shortcoming in the Khoros platform, but @Midnight_Voice suggests this feature does work correctly on the EE Community, which uses the same platform.

Just wondering if there's a box somewhere that needs to be checked to enable this to work properly?

@Anonymous

One consideration here is the sequence in which a thread is presented. Besides the usual Linear, Oldest Posting First that is the default, there is ‘Threaded’, in which replies to a specific posting should be grouped under that posting, not appended to the end of the topic.

My Settings/Preferences/Preference Options/Linear Layout/Threaded.

I tried this on the displaced one I mentioned, but it didn’t change its position, so either it was made as a Reply to the latest posting, rather than a Reply to the specific posting, or this feature doesn’t work either.

Test Reply to OP’s posting - note timestamp is before my later Test, above.

Seems to be treated as a generic reply though, not threaded below OP’s Posting.

There is, if course, a related problem even if folks refer to a particular post by number as it depends on which way the reader lists posts, oldest first or newest first.

The posts are numbered sequentially regardless of sorting, rather than chronologically.

Hey @Anonymous,

I'll take a look at this and see if I can pin down why the feature is behaving differently to the EE Community.
