Awful voice

Why on earth do we have to have the ghastly American voice telling us that 'all lines are temporarily busy. Please try again later'? It's so awful I just want to cancel my phone line.

Hallo Kate,

No I'm not abroad. I'm in the UK. But I can't remember the number I was calling. However, I often hear that American voice and (a) why does it have to be American (BT stands for British Telecom!) and (b) why does it have to be such an awful one?

Sorry Katie, but I just can't remember. I answered a call but was too late, so looked to see what number had called me, rang it, and was told by this American voice. I've tried to look at past calls but they've gone.

What a waste of time. You do not know who called you and you returned the call!

Check your phone bill. You have most likely been scammed into calling a premium rate number!

OK, OK. A list of past callers is available on my phone. Often I miss the actual call, so ring the caller back. This normally works, but this time the line was engaged and I was told so by the American.

You appear to be having a go at me for ringing an unknown number. But I complained to BT about the American voice.

I've heard that voice many many times over the years and it definitely emanates from BT

I couldn't care less that you phone back an unknown number. That is entirely up to you.

What I find odd not to mention that some may find it a bit racist, is that you come onto this forum ranting about an "American" voice on an automated machine on a number that you called having no idea who it is you are calling and yet you are adamant that it is BT.

You then go onto say "I've heard that voice many many times over the years and it definitely emanates from BT". without you being able to say which departments you have called "over the years" when you heard the voice.

Have you considered that it could be just a computer generated generic voice that is used by any number of companies.

Have you considered that it could be a scammer that called you hoping that you call them back on their premium rate number.

Have you considered that there is more to life than moaning about a voice on a number that you have no idea who it is you are calling!

I don't see why I shouldn't complain about an awful voice. If you don't think I should complain that's up to you.

And don't start about being racist. I just don't like the voice - end of story.
