This would have nothing to do with BT or Openreach, as its used by power utilities to encase their cables.

Asbestos Cement conduits were mainly used to convey HV and LV cables into and out of substations, buried under road crossings, containing cables inside or being empty, used as spares alongside roads or buried in the footpath.

I have a neighbour who's planted large quick growing deep rooted shrubs over and along a 50m length of an old 2" thick 'Cement Asbestos Cable' buried 14" underground. Is this dangerous?

(Needles to say this is a land grab by the neighbour who is unaware of this 'Cement Asbestos Cable' because it's not registered on his land)

Worked in Telecoms all my life, never once came across a Cement Asbestos Cable?!?!

I’m not even sure that would work.

It will be copper power cable buried in cement/asbestos ducting. Probably not a good idea to dig into it.

If you have ever worked inside substations (Hot-Sites), then its likely you would have seen it on some of the older sites. Its not likely to be used any more.

I suppose it may have been in use in certain areas, but I never came across it while I was working. It may be worth asking Openreach about it?
