I too was inflicted with the ancient smart hub 2 which unbelievably is wifi 5 in 2025.

I simply went on a auction site and bought the EE wifi 6 hub..literally plug and play and vastly superior signal. The EE wifi 7 is now also available there as well

Hi all,

I’ve just joined BT again, and I am on the fibre 2 package 67-80mbps and was wondering if I will be sent the BT smart hub 2 or the new EE smart hub plus? As I have a family member who’s with BT and was given an ee router instead. My main reason for this is, is because when I had BT last time the range was dreadful with that router ( bt smart hub 2) and a different router would be appreciated.

has anyone else been given an EE router or is this just a mistake.

kind regards

As a new BT customer I expect you to receive BT SH2 in addition to broadband are you also getting digital voice?

And the basic EE router is identical inside to the SH2, though the firmware may be a little different,,,

I was considering this but didn’t know if an EE router would work with my BT broadband (FTTC 70MBPS) so if I were to purchase an EE smart hub online it would work?

It will work perfectly ..I had the BT router on ADSL and when full fibre was available I wasn't offered a new router. With my prehistoric BT router on my 500mbps package I couldn't get above 150mbps over wifi. With the EE wifi 6 it constantly reaches the maximum 500mbps over wifi.

Like I mentioned BT EE and plusnet are identical with the broadband so it literally is plug and play.

Cool! Thanks I’ve found a brand new ee smart hub plus on eBay for relatively cheap so I’ll order that.

Interested in your experience. I have SH2 and also EE smart hub plus. Tried to swap but the EE demanded a stronger password etc etc. was this your pnp experience? Also have whole home wifi black discs. These do not work with EE router so I'm told. Would need to replace these too.
