Draytek 2767

Just a heads up for any Draytek users…

The Vigor 2762 drops out of security support altogether on the 11th of May. I recently bought the new 2767, (released in December), as an upgrade to the old 2762. It appears, however, that the 2767 cannot pass a global IPv6 address to connected LAN clients when it is connected through the Smart Hub 2, (to enable Digital Voice). This was never an issue with the 2762 but the 2767 uses a new version of Dray OS, version 5, so presumably it is a bug somewhere.

Draytek have been looking into it for me for a couple of weeks now, but they have still not come up with a resolution.

I used to be a great fan of DrayTek but over the past few years, the quality has gone down big time. I'm afraid they're not what they used to be. (My best ones were 2820 and 2830; anything after had issues with firmware or keeping online on a noisy line.)

Yes, I think that's the same all over now though.

The "Agile" design methodology has a lot to answer for. Get it out on the market as fast as you can and fix stuff as you go along.

Interestingly, the 2767 has a PPPoE passthrough capability. One of the things I've been playing with today is seeing if I can make the SH2 work as a standalone ATA with the Draytek connected directly to the ONT. No luck so far though.

The IPv6 works fine if it is connected directly to the ONT.

This approach of getting a device on the market and then fix issues seems to be common now. Arlo is another company with their terrible app and *constant* issues that does that. It's actually shocking how poor their app is and on top of everything, you can't access Support unless you're paying extortionate costs for subscription.

I find that Fritz!boxes and Devolo work well and are not as buggy as the firmware on DrayTek. However, Devolo's firmware is now 3 years old.

One thing for sure: never ever will I buy a DrayTek ever again. Their support went downhill a few years ago, too. They simply have no idea what they're doing, especially that most DrayTek users are pro users. Their 2.4GHz/5GHz radio hardware wasn't great on the models that I used, in addition to *constant* disconnections, regardless of firmware version, on my noisy DSL line at the time (by contrast, a Fritz!box handled the line much better). Once associated with quality, the DrayTek brand is now synonymous, in my view, with buggy firmware and poor quality, but with the premium price tag.

My advice to you: to save yourself hassle, either return your DrayTek or sell it on eBay, and get something decent like UniFi or even Fritz!box. You can try the DrayTek forum for help.

@licquorice Thanks for this. I remember seeing it the first time it got a mention but it will be worth a read again.

At the moment, I’m waiting for Draytek to fix the problem, but if they can’t then in the long run I think I might drop DV altogether and go with third-party VoIP. I was never really enamoured with DV having to go through the SH2, although to give credit where due, it’s worked very well for almost three years.

Just by coincidence I was looking at Andrews & Arnold’s offering today and their PAYG monthly fee is only half of BT’s. Their call charges are a fraction as well.

My advice: get rid of the DrayTek. It's not worth the hassle, time and effort, and there are much better products out there.

You can only get rid of DV if you're out of contract.

I also have A&A, and they're cheap and reliable. Very good and highly responsive customer service. However, calls aren't encrypted in the same way as DV calls are.
