Re-instate a BT line to domestic dwelling

The dwelling has a BT overhead line going into the property, but it has been snipped just after it enters the property, and would require new phone wire to be added, plus a box. The line has not been used for many years, but I want to re-instate it for domestic landline and internet use.

My question is: who would carry out this work - do I contact BT and they send an engineer? Do they charge for such work?

it would be openreach to replaced the line not BT. you would need to place an order with your chosen ISP not necessarily BT and then openreach will replace line or maybe if in fibre area install FTTP

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

Actual speeds experienced by end users and quoted by CPs will be lower due to a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.

In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.

If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service

ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL availability: If shown at FTTP or SOGEA premises,ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL are not available to order due to WLR Withdrawal stop sell rules. CPs should order FTTP or SOGEA. Copper products are only available by exception.

Assuming you want to use BT , you contact them (on line or call ) and arrange service , as Openreach FTTP is available, the existing copper wire is of no use , a new optical dropwire and associated CSP (external wall block ) and ONT (internal mains powered device the router connects to ) are installed…the new optical cable not necessarily entering the building where the current copper cable does ( but it can if that’s suits your purposes ) you can discuss that with the installer.

As FTTP is available much faster speeds are available if you want them , but you don’t need to take the higher speeds unless you want to ….you start by calling the provider , and presumably that is BT , seeing as you have posted here on a BT customer forum

There is no ‘up front’ charge for the installation work ( depending on the provider ) , with BT the costs of installation are in effect absorbed into the monthly fee for the service if you take a 24 month ‘deal’ .
