Thx. Given I have now put the cables in the wall to another room, ‘can’ you use cat5 eg any way to connect using an adaptor? I can’t now put the phone line cable in the wall….

Hi I have set up cat5 cabling in house and intend to move where the router sits, away from phone socket. I have run a cat5 cable towhere the phone/broadband socket is as per electrician advice with other end being where I want to have the router. Can anyone help with what I need to do to connect cat5 to the bt socket? Thanks!

You don't need cat5 cable to simply extend the incoming broadband signal. You just need 2 wires connected to the data extension terminals of the master socket and an rj11 socket at the remote location.

Given I have to crimp the rj45 heads on, if I crimp an rj11 head on instead and leave some wires redundant, would this work….? Thanks

Of course, you just need to use one pair. The cat5 will come in handy if/when you get FTTP and the ONT is sited where the master socket resides. You will then need Ethernet between the ONT and hub.
