Hi,

Recently upgraded to 900mbs with halo 3 and have installed 3 x black discs, can anyone explain why the max wifi I get throughout the house even with the discs is 120mbs? upload speeds average 90mbs.

Why advertise these speeds when they can`t be achieved.

@Mc6PE67

You would not get the full speed on Wi-Fi, the speeds quoted are for a fast PC connected using an Ethernet cable.

The reasoning behind a faster connection, is that it can be shared by lots of people within the household, not for one user to get the full speed.

The figures you are getting would be typical for a wireless device.

Here is a copy of a post from a moderator.

"I think for the first time ever we are in a situation whereby the speed you can now get through Full Fibre outperforms the capabilities of many devices.

The Smart hub 2 does not come with Wi-Fi 6 but this is something we are looking to include in our next generation of Hub. I don't have any info as to when we will launch a new router by Wi-Fi 6 will bring some improvement.

As an example of what I mean in terms of devices not being able to support the full breadth of speed available on Full Fibre 900, take a look at the table below. This is just for a couple of Apple Smart Phones and Tablets along with popular Samsung models,

Ethernet should ensure you get the maximum possible speed but I also appreciate that connecting this way is not always possible"

Hi there I had a similar problem. It seems BT mesh network is still Wi-Fi 5 an outdated system by now thats never given good Wi-Fi speeds. iPhone 13 pro gets around 250 Mbps on Wi-Fi on BT discs and on a Ubiquiti Wi-Fi 6 around 750 to 800 Mbps easy on the same phone. However this cost around £1.2 k for the alien router x 3 and these are all connected via Ethernet so there’s no backhaul or higher ping problems.

By a decent Wi-Fi 6 network if you want good Wi-Fi. Try a a good make like Asus or ubiquiti if you need real high speeds. Remember that a broadband providers router can’t be expected to perform like high end equipment.

Ask yourself if it’s worth it. Do you really need anymore than 100 Mbps on a tablet or phone or streaming sticks etc.

The smart hub is capable of speeds close to 900 Mbps on Ethernet reliably on large downloads so maybe things like Desktop PC or consoles try using Ethernet.

You will never get 900Mbps download on Wi-Fi 5.
