Extending BT Whole Home using 2 of the 3 disc starter kits

Hi, I am looking to extend my whole home wifi into the garden outbuildings. to do this i needed to add discs. I got a second 3 disc starter kit, but it doesn't seem to work as an extension. Is this not possible? i.e. can i only extend using the extender discs? Thanks.
