No Grey Cable with new hub?

Hello all, I've just moved into a new property and have got myself a smart hub 2 yet it didn't come with a gray cable to plug the broadband in with so I can't seem to use it? Does this mean I have to go and buy a gray cable?

The colour of the cable is irrelevant. All the Ethernet cables that are sent out with the BT hub, regardless of their colour are the same.

If there is no cable, you will either need to contact BT 0330 1234 150 and ask them to send one out to you or you will need to purchase one.

I've got two ethernet cables but the one I need is slightly smaller in width so I can connect it to the main socket. Sorry if I'm not making much sense I don't really understand these types of things anymore

What service have you got? A cable going to the grey port of the SH2 would be for ADSL/FTTC & plugged into a master socket. If you have FTTP with an Openreach ONT with green LEDs on it, you don't need that cable, just an ethernet cable from the ONT to the WAN/LAN4 port on the SH2.

Service? I'm not sure what you mean sorry. I just know that I got the package of fiber and got a smart hub 2 I believe. I think I need a cable to go from the router to the wall into the ADSL bit?

What sort of fibre did you order? It will be on your email confirmation of the order. Do you have one of these?

Full fiber I think? I don't have one of those boxes yet. The engineer isn't coming for another week or 3 but they sold me a hybrid connect to access the internet in the meantime but it says it needs to be plugged into the router? So I assumed you needed the router to work.can I just plug in the hybrid connect and connect it via ethernet to my pc and it will just work? Thanks in advance

Then you will need the ONT installed before the router will connect to the Internet. The hybrid connects to the router by ethernet & should kick in when the Internet connection fails. I'm afraid I have no idea if you can set it up without a working Internet connection first. Guess it's a case of try it & see!

But connecting to the telephone socket won't help as there'll be no service there anyway.
