Multiple issues with TPLink Power line Adapters

I recently bought a TPLink Passthrough Powerline adapter kit. Initial set up worked perfectly, however I get very slow download speeds on the PC connected through ethernet (15mbps compared to 50 on wirelessly connected devices). Additionally, the router keeps dropping it's connection every few minutes while plugged into the TPLink device (flashing orange light). It is a BT Smart Hub 2. Any recommendations?

I could simply be poor electrical wiring in your home that is causing a problem. are both tplink connected direct to a wall socket not extension cable
