Right, in which case I suggest you investigate if the incoming wires are indeed the wires that appear to be crimped to the green pair in your photo of the hall socket. If that is indeed the incoming pair, simply move the master socket to the hall and connect the incoming pair to the line terminals at the rear of the socket. Leave all other wires disconnected.

Hi, I wish to change my master Ethernet socket in my lounge to where I have just a phone point in the hall (closest to the incoming feed). Photos attached with the phone point showing unused Green/white; orange/green/white & white/blue/green (?). Is it just a straight swap of connecting orange/white/blue lines? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, it’s BT for both. The reason I’m making the change is to upgrade my BT I need to convert internal from copper to fibre and will be easier by changing my Ethernet location.

An internet connection isn't RJ45.

Just describe exactly what you have now and exactly what you want to achieve.

Sorry, my ignorance. Right I have an Openreach Mk3 VDSL master socket in the lounge which I connect the router broadband to. I want to move my router to the hall and be able to plug in broadband there however there is currently only a phone point there. Do I just swap the boxes over and replicate wiring? Hope that make sense this time sorry.

Right, that makes much more sense. There is no Ethernet or RJ45 involved.

Simply move the 2 wires that are currently connected to terminals 2&5 of the faceplate of the master socket to the data extension terminals at the rear of the socket.

You can then either just use a filter to convert your existing extension phone socket to RJ11 for the router to plug into or change the faceplate to an RJ11 faceplate so that the router can plug in directly.

Hmm, looking closer at your pictures, I suspect at some point the socket in the hall was the master and the incoming wires have been crimped through to the socket in the lounge to make that the master instead. There also seems to be wiring for another extension socket.

What is the end result you wish to achieve?

Just one socket in the hall for broadband and nothing else or do you want telephone sockets at various locations as well?

You have also mentioned fibre, albeit again in a way that makes no sense. Are you upgrading to FTTP? If so you can forget all about telephone sockets as they won't be used.

Reference to fibre was that BT have informed me that to upgrade my broadband (I.e. renew my contract) I’ll need to have ‘fibre’ installed in the house as copper communications is not longer being supported and phased out. So I was looking to move my master closer to the outside incoming to avoid having external cables running all around the house (as lounge is on middle floor).

I posted my previous reply before I saw your post about fibre.

@If you are getting full fibre to you house, the existing wiring and sockets are irrelevant as they won't be used as@Anonymous said. The fibre will be terminated on an optical modem (ONT) and the ONT connected to your hub with a short Ethernet patch cable. The location of the ONT can be negotiated with the installer
