Can someone please explain BT Hub 6 Technical Log

Noise margin: is a higher db better than lower? A few sites say higher is better but others say lower is better.

Line attenuation: lower or higher is better?

Signal attenuation: lower or higher is better?

I swapped my BT flat dsl cable between the mastersocket and router for a Cat5e copper cable and the noise margin went from 6.1/5.6 to 6.1/6.5, Line attenuation: from 52db now at 50

I know Dlm might have changed it since reconnecting the line while changing the cable but im just after if its better or worse and if a higher db is better

Is that better or worse? Thanks to anyone who can explain as im not the most technical 🙂

Attenuation is how much the signal is being lowered, hence the lower the better.

Noise margin and speed are directly related. DLM aims for a figure of 6dB of margin which will give a certain speed. If you line is unstable, DLM will increase your margin to lower your speed.

The difference in the figures you have quoted are miniscule and will have absolutely no impact whatsoever. The figures will never be exactly 6dB and will fluctuate continuously, a change in air temperature will cause them to change.
