the Alexa show 5 is quite capable of connecting to 5ghz so maybe turn on again

did you try the wifi analyser to see what channels are in use near you then select the least congested both for 2.4/5ghz

you could also try changing wifi mode from 1 to either 2 or 3

Thanks for the prompt response . I may have cracked it... I looked and some router logs that I periodically save and spotted that this started when I mounted a bird box camera on the house wall. The camera is Wifi but does not connect to my Wifi. It is a small camera connecting to its own receiver that connects to a monitor via HDMI. It has a choice of 4 channels at 2.414, 2.432, 2.450 or 2.468Ghz. I had the the 2.450 selected. I disconnected the bird box camera receiver and everything is connecting now at a good speed. Not sure if this is coincidental or if the camera receiver is interfering with my Wifi. If it is, the camera works better as a wifi blocker than a camera to be honest 🙂

I'll leave it off for a week ( even though the Blue **bleep** in the box are about to lay eggs ) and update the forum if it is the bird box camera. I'll probably need to get in touch with Green Feathers, the company that sell these camera's to see what they have as a solution.

BTW: I know that the SHOWs are 5Ghz capable but if I have 5Ghz enabled, my other devices that are not dual channel, don't respond to the Show's that are on 5Ghz. I read somewhere that this was a common problem on BT routers and they were looking at resolving it with a FW update. Speed on WiFi is good enough on 2.4Ghz and I need the distance it provides for the garden Echo Dot.

I will leave it unresolved for now until a few days of wifi stability have passed.
