Creating a Minecraft server, port forwarding

Hi all,

I had a minecraft server setup on previous broadband provider (EE). I had set up port forwarding for port 25565 on my gaming pc. Everything worked fine, my friends could connect using my public IP and i could also connect using my public ip address.

Fast forward to today. I had recently switched to BT and had my modem, router and everything setup. Internet connection is great.

I setup portforwarding on my new router, selected my pc as the portforward device, added 25565 to both internal and external ports, then launched and ran my server. I tried connecting to it using my public ip address and I couldn't connect at all.

I then did some diagnosing and added the port 25565 to my inbound and outbound rules for my pc (firewall).

I restarted the server then tried connecting again and still no luck. I then checked CanYouSeeMe.org to see if my ip address and port was visible, this is what i got:

I then also checked GRC to see what the status of my ports where and this was the result:

I have no idea what else to do and how to get this working...

I have contacted BT customer support, I was then told that the people I called were not trained to handle this sort of thing and when I asked if their IT team had a contact number they said no.

I don't know what else to do...

Try disabling UPnP, it might be causing a conflict.

How were you trying to connect, via your own wifi or 4G?

NAT loopback is a bit unpredictable, best try connecting via 4G

Are there any cons to this? Will my chromecast and stuff still work?

No idea, try it and see.

Via my own wifi, I have also tried conencting to my local ipv4 address then adding the :25565 extension to address NAT loopback (googled this). Nothing works

All my ports are on Stealth mode as seen in the GRC screenshot, can this be the problem?

The ports in the screenshot are only the first 1056 ports and are irrelevant to your problem and as expected. You need to specifically test your port.

Are you sure the server is running, the port won't be open unless the service is running.

Try a factory reset of the hub and start again.

I misread what you wrote.

You need to leave your PC connected to the hub as normal and then try connecting to the server with your phone rather than your PC.

If port forwarding has been applied correctly, the port will show closed if the service isn't running rather than stealth.

Are you sure you are saving the rule correctly?

Its a bit quirky, after creating the rule, click the + sign and then Save.

After factory resetting the router, I can join on from my pc using local ipv4 address then using the :25565. However a couple things have happened:

- My public ip address changed
- Checking canyouseeme.org port 25565 on the new public ip address says error still
- Checking GRC the port is still on Stealth

I know no way of connecting to the server/ip address from my phone as Minecraft Java edition is only for PC

I believe I have set it up correctly. After refreshing, i can see the port forward rule and the rule has an "X" beside it

Yes, it will do, you have a dynamic public IP address and it will change every time you get a disconnection.

- Checking canyouseeme.org port 25565 on the new public ip address says error still
- Checking GRC the port is still on Stealth

Then the port hasn't been forwarded successfully or it would show as either Open (if working) or closed if no service running on the port. I have tested port 25565 and I get Stealth with no port forwarding but Closed if I forward the port without a server listening on that port. I get Open on port 80 with a web server running.

I know no way of connecting to the server/ip address from my phone as Minecraft Java edition is only for PC
