Tri band WIFI 6E router to replace BT SH 2

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced router that caters for the WIFI 6e standard?

As I no longer have a land line I can replace the SH2. I have FTTP 900 MBPS

From research I have done , I get the impression that that this tech is still in it's infancy.

For every router I consider someone has a horror story.

It all depends on the device.

Using Analiti, I am seeing an internet download speed of around 450mbps, upload 103mbps using a Pixel 6 Pro next to the SH2.

Next to the Disc

250 mbps, 100mbps

And what is it you do with a Pixel6 that would benefit from greater speed?

I am just using it as a tool to assess WIFI coverage at the moment.

One thing I am noticing is that the Pixel struggles to switch between WIFI sources as I move round the house unless it has no option. So the optimal connection is not always used, despite the hype from BT

I'm not sure if there is a way to check this but, on the hub manager or the analiti app, when you're connected to both the disc or hub, do you know if you're connected to 5ghz or 2.4ghz. I'm not sure if there's a way to know, also id like to know when you do a restart of the hub or disc do speeds change at all?

Hi Monir

The MY BT app tells you what band a device is connected on, and whether it is connected to SH2 or Disc.

I had just restarted my hub and the speeds are roughly the same

What link speed (PHY) do you see rather than download speed, to identify where the problem lies.

Using Analiti the PHY speed from the SH2 is 866 (throughput 450 MBPS)

Having made sure that the phone is connecting via the Disc and testing again

PHY speed from the Disc is 866 (throughput 150 MBPS)

For that test with the disc, was the disc connected to the hub via Ethernet?

The Disc was connected via WIFI so given its Half Duplex x 2 hops I would anticipate the throughput should be around 866/4. I did expect the connection between the HUB and Disc to be more sophisticated, but it appears that that is not the case.

Having connected it up using an ethernet cable I discovered that the disc really does not like being connected to the Hub via ethernet. Performance is terrible. So I am not sure that they are designed to be connected that way except on disc setup.

What do you mean by it really doesn't like it, is it just speed that's bad?

The PHP dropped to 34 so the connection speed was very low.

This has been tried before as a search on the internet brings up archived posts that are not available to view.

A ChatGPT enquiry came back with a response suggesting that the disc was never designed to be connected to the hub using an ethernet cable, other than for set up.

Certainly connecting the Disc this way causes a reconfiguration of the port on the SH2 as it temporarily stops working when you reconnect a PC. (no internet for a brief period). (All my LAN ports are in use).

The disc when connected using WIFI does create a mesh (all devices now have an excellent connection when formally some had poor irrespective of whether they are connected to the SH2 or Disc), however the mesh is unevenly distributed, giving maximum speed if the device is connected to the SH2 as opposed to the Disc.

Ah, I see. I've never heard of that kind of behaviour before. I asked you as I had seen this video but I never thought that all of the issues that you'd mentioned would come to occur.

Having watched the video I tried again this time switching the disc off before plugging in the ethernet cable. It now works at full speed.

Next job is to run a network cable via the coving into the plasterboard covered wall partitions
