Setting up a vlan

Given I don't use a business broadband account I believe static routing on BT Smart Hub router is not possible if I wanted to tell the router to send traffic on a "different" subnet to the default lan network.

I wanted to understand from others if they have solved this problem without having to replace their Smart Hub router

E.g default network is 192.168.1.0/24 and only certain devices must exist within 192.168.2.0/24 range. I can use a netgear switch to create different vlans but just cannot get the traffic routed to the vlans via the bt smart hub router (as static routing is not possible)
