      <title>Ethernet connection from BT Smarthub 2 to Laptop causing seriously low Upload speed</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi all&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I posted recently about an issue I am having with my Email after update to Digital Voice/BT Smarthub 2&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The problem was that I could not receive Emails before the connection was timed&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have now identified a problem which I think is causing the problem&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Basically with the Ethernet connection my UPLOAD SPEED has dropped to below 1mbs !!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Whereas disconnecting Ethernet and using WiFi the UPLOAD SPEED is normal at around 15-20 mbs&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I would welcome any suggestions as to where I might look for a resolution so I can return to using my Ethernet&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thank you&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Edward&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;try Factory reset of sh2 by pressing recessed button on back of hub and holding 20/30 secs until lights flash&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;have you tried a different ethernet cable&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I can assure you it is not my intention to waste your time or anybodies.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;My original post concerned my inability to pick up&amp;nbsp; emails immediately after BT changed&amp;nbsp; my router for Digital Voice&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I did not realise this was a symptom of a wider issue not just&amp;nbsp; involving emails&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hence my recent post was an attempt to broaden the issue to try to understand why an ethernet connection would reduce&amp;nbsp; my upload speed from 18-20mbs to less than 1mbs&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Edward&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Hi&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Thanks for your reply to my post&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have just replaced the Ethernet cable with a new one&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Here are the results -&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Download speed 71Mbs (As expected)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Upload Speed &amp;lt; 1Mbs (Expected 15 - 20Mbs)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Now tested with Ethernet cable disconnected ie WiFi&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Download speed 38Mbs (Roughly half that expected)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Upload speed 18Mbs (As expected)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I cannot understand why these results are so dramatically different&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Edward&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Mismatches can occur between different Ethernet devices due to timing errors, especially with cheap consumer stuff like the home hub.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;An Ethernet switch has the ability to correct any timing differences as it has a small internal buffer and a flow control mechanism to match different speeds.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Try adding the switch, just a single port connected to a single port on the home hub, and another port connected to the laptop Ethernet port.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;See if it sorts out the upload speed.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Thanks a lot Keith&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I understand your thinking&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I have a NETGEAR 5Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;On the box it states - Auto-negotiation for automatic connection at the highest common speed between switch and an end device!!&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I guess this is what you think could possibly help with my issue&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;I will get on with it and let you the result&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Fingers crossed&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Edward&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Faulty or misconfigured network port on the laptop. Uninstall the adapter and then let Windows re-install it.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Perhaps updated drivers needed, or a check of the hardware settings on the network interface to see if its set to auto-negotiate.&lt;/P&gt;
