Hi

Can anyone help with this.

I want to split the 2.4GHz and 5 GHz SSID names on my router. According to BT when I open the router hub's settings page I should see an option to ' Split Bands' in the advanced settings page. I don't see this option. I have the latest Hub.

Anyone have any idea how achieve splitting the bands on the latest hub ?

I want to connect smart sockets which will only contect to a 2.4GHz SSID but they are seeing the 5 GHz and refuse to connect to it.

Thanks in advance if you can help me.

if you have a SH2 then you cannot split the 2.4/5ghz wifi by giving separate SSID

The briefest of perusals of the forum would reveal this has been asked countless times.

1. You can't split the bands

2. Temporarily turn of the 5Ghz WiFi, connect your devices and then turn 5Ghz back on.

They are not seeing the 5Ghz as they don't have 5Ghz capability.

It's the device you're using for setup that needs to be 2.4Ghz - the coexisting 5Ghz network doesn't actually matter. The device is listening for packets broadcast on the physical layer to tell it the SSID and password, so the phone has to be on that band to send them. Which is a problem for phones that don't let you specify the band, so the fix is to turn off 5Ghz, not because the device cares, but to force the phone to use 2.4.

I.e, the devices are connecting in ad-hoc mode rather than via the router.

A single SSID is required for true band steering of dual band devices.

I did as you suggested and turned off 5GHz....but still no Joy. I am attempting to add smart sockets to my home network. However when I use the APP to add the smart plugs it consistently tellsme I am inputting an incorrect password for my BT wirelessnetwork....but I am inputting the corecct password. Think I will just have to send them back. Nothing I do seems to work to get the darned things connected,

Might be a limitation of the complexity of the WiFi password, or it contains a character the app doesn't like. You could maybe try reducing the complexity temporarily to test that.

What make of smart sockets? I've set up a variety, and you sometimes have to be a complete pedant. One brand I've used has a secret AP (access point) mode that you can put the plugs into if they just won't set up otherwise.

Hello

I just recently did this as I've just joined BT...

TP-Link AC1200 Mesh Dual (RE300)

I used this as was simple & I was thinking in the long term will save issues with BT firmware updates to the smart hub 2.

I'm sure you will find some suitable in Argos too if needed.

Good luck & have a lovely night .

So, these are Tuya (Smart Home) devices with an Amazon psudo-branding. Initial connection is via Bluetooth, and you shouldn't normally need to turn off the 5GHz radio. I've set these very devices up though I don't have any here, and they are usually incredibly straightforward.
Are you using the Tuya, Smart Home, or another app? From memory, the Tuya app itself is usually at least a point version ahead of the others!
