Connect direct to ONT?

This page Openreach modem (ONT) explained: Ports and models available | BT Help implies I could continue using my modem with an ONT. I don't really want a Smart Hub (I was sent one two years ago) as I connect my Deco mesh via PPPoE to the modem. I guess I would need the SH if I wanted DV.

Or have I misunderstood?

When you say modem, do you mean router? The ONT is a modem, you can connect any PPPoE capable router to it, not another modem. However, you will not have access to Digital Voice.

The Deco M5 is a router.

But yes you could connect the M5 directly to the ONT and it probably would not need any changes made to the configuration.

As @dave44 says, the Deco is a router, just connect it to the ONT instead of the Hg612.
