You will most likely need a filter between the socket and the router if so the simplest solution is to plug a filter into the socket which will split the supply into phone/voice (BT socket) and broadband (RJ12).

The SH2 socket is RJ11, assuming you are on FTTC. (I think RJ12s are a bit smaller. I seem to recall they are what is used to connect a handset to the base).

Phone socket is a BT431A. If you are going to do that, an RJ11 socket might be easier, as RJ11 to RJ11 cables are easier to get hold of but it can be done as pins 2 and 5 on the BT plug to the middle two pins on the RJ11. The SH2 doesn’t mind which way round they are.

are you on adsl or FTTC or FTTP. if using socket on back of hub then you must be on DV so what are you actually trying to achieve by wiring hub to socket?

A good point raised by imjolly.

I’m assuming you just want to connect the router to an extension phone socket and it is ADSL or FTTC. On DV the phone plugs into the phone socket on the back of the hub, of course.

so why wire the socket if phones are dect connected. if you want to move your base to nearer the phone socket would you not be better with just a DV adapter connected to power socket

imjolly distance from hub to where we want phone is just over 25ft in a straight line accross room thats why is better to run a wire out through the hole where BT come into room then around outside of building and in where the phone wall socket is.

If you are on FTTP then what I said doesn’t apply. The router connects to the ONT via an ethernet cable plugged into the WAN socket.

If the phone is DV the base station must connect to the socket on the back of the router or to an adapter plugged in to a power socket.

If the phone is not DV the base station must connect to the phone socket on the wall, in which case a simple phone extension lead could be run round the room.

but a DV adapter connects to hub by DECT so you could plug that into a mains socket and then connect your existing base to the adapter which would then give you a working phone and no wires. or am I missing something?
