Cable connection

I have a wireless router connected to the BT socket on the wall by a cable which is approx 6 metres log. I keep it coiled up as the distance between the router and socket is only about 500mm! Can I get a shorter cable of shorten the current one?

Yes.

If you have FTTP with an ONT then you need a Cat5e or better RJ45 ethernet cable. If you have a copper based service with a master socket then an RJ11 cable.

If that is the case, it must plug into the DSL port on the BT Home Hub, and then connect to your phone socket. Is that correct?

Slightly trickier as the Fritzbox uses an RJ45 for the DSL connection. So you need an RJ45 to RJ11 cable. Might be tricky to find one short enough.

That is not a BT Home Hub, are you a BT Broadband customer, if not, why are you posting on this forum?

@Anonymous That looks like the old interstitial plate. I believe the Mk2 and 3 iplates could take an RJ45. I'm not sure about the Mk1.

If I cut the cable then simply reconnect it by twisting the bare wires would that work?

Yes. I've found an Ebay seller with 100% feedback with a 0.5m one for £3.49 but can't link directly. Search Ebay for item 251690246370.

Cutting the cable would be a bad idea.

Yes.

I've no direct experience with the seller but his feedback indicates it should be safe purchase. Although there's probably little, if anything, to be gained from changing to a shorter cable other than aesthetics.
