Ethernet cable length

I have a BT Smart Hub 2 in a ground floor room but am considering relocating my PC to a first floor room which is diagonal to where the router is.

Is there a maximum length of ethernet cable I can use or is the length totally irrelevant ?

Cat 5e or above Ethernet cable can be up to 100 meters

100m is the technical spec. Working techies don’t usually push beyond 85m. For 5e to maintain 1Gb/s at 100m needs good quality cable with a perfect install. Cat 6 will manage better at extreme distances.
